Salt Lake Temple

The centerpiece and spiritual capital of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Salt Lake Temple is a sacred pilgrimage destination for members of the faith. Brigham Young chose this spot for a temple as soon as he arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, but work on the building didn't begin for another six years. Built of blocks of granite hauled by oxen and train from Little Cottonwood Canyon, the Mormon Temple took 40 years to the day to complete. Its walls are 16 feet thick at the base. Enjoy the grounds and the stately structure. Only observant Mormons may enter the temple itself.
